Obituary for Mark S. Skrobecki

Mark Skrobecki
December 10, 1958 – August 18, 2022

Mark passed away quietly and peacefully of natural causes in Richmond, Ontario. He was raised in Cambridge ON and spent most of his adult life in the Ottawa area. He is pre-deceased by parents Anna and Jules and dear sister Christine (Mike Ministrelli). He is survived by brother Richard and brother-in-law Christopher Grosset of Almonte, Ontario.
Throughout a 25 year career in IT, Mark excelled in a variety of technical positions including software programming, systems and product engineering, and network integration with Bell-Northern Research and Nortel Networks (Ottawa) before taking on management and team lead positions with InGenious People (Ottawa) and finally with Research in Motion (Waterloo). He enjoyed working with a team of people - a quality that originated early in life playing hockey and baseball in Galt leagues and while a student at Glenview Park SS.
Mark’s ability to continue working and lead a ‘normal’ life was cut short after becoming the victim of a traffic accident 15 years ago. Three years of intensive brain injury therapies followed, with the help of his family, friends and many health care professionals. Special thanks go to Neuropsychologist Dr.Marie Piskopos and PSW Doug Weatherill for their positive and lasting impact on Mark’s rehabilitation.
Mark decided to move back to the Ottawa area where he could enjoy the great outdoors, his close group of friends (‘the lads’), brothers Richard and Christopher. He was a passionate, all-seasons fisherman and loved discovering new fishing locales across eastern Ontario. The time he spent with friends and family was most important to him. He could be a boisterous character one moment (when it came to telling fishing tales, Mark was the best!) - kind, caring and sensitive the next. He is missed by all who knew him.
