Obituary for John Harold Graham

Graham, John Harold
Passed away peacefully at home with his family in Ottawa on September 27, 2023.

Formerly of Almonte, ON, at the age of 90.
Beloved husband to Mimi (nee Moermans) for 64 years. Proud father to Stephen (Sylvie) of California, Robert (Michelle) of Scotland, Tanja (James Hanson) of British Columbia and John Jr. (Katrina) of Perth, ON. Loving “Grampie” of Michelle, Emilie, Christy, Graham, Sydney, Aidan, Jeremy, Xander and Kenzie as well as his great-grandson Theo. Dear brother to Lyn Graham Judson (Brian Williamson) and predeceased by his brother Fred and his sister Frances. Predeceased by his brother-in-law John Judson and survived by his sister-in-law Phyllis and brother-in-law David Bird. Remembered by his nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A special thanks to Dr. Priscilla Bright and Mila Vorontsova and the Palliative Care Team.

As a young boy, John joined the Scouts and rose to the rank of King's Scout. He enjoyed everything Scouting stood for and later became a Scoutmaster. He passed on many skills to the young Scouts until his young son, Stephen, discovered speed skating at nearby Balena Park. John immediately got involved and became a prominent member of the Ottawa Pacers Speed Skating Club. He coached, became president, took charge of making good ice, and became a starter. As the other kids became involved, he started travelling with them to competitions. He was always there to encourage, praise, and keep many people’s skates sharp. Throughout those years he developed a cottage property on Big Rideau Lake, teaching his family the love of nature, fishing, and learning to build and fix things. The cottage, he felt, would be his legacy, as it was always a fun place to be for all of us, and everybody that ventured over there. Limberlost cottage will always feel your love and strength, John. God bless you and rest in peace.

“ John modeled the beauty of being a loving father to all of his children. He always gave thanks to God for all of the goodness in his life and the many blessings that his family had. We rejoice in knowing that Dad / Grampie is now living in glory with our Heavenly Father. Dad always said, “If everyone could be more like Jesus, the world would be a better place”. Jesus said: “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.” John 11:25
