Obituary for Brent Allister Connelly

Forester and Author

It is with profound sadness that the family of Brent Connelly announces his passing at Queensway-Carleton Hospital, Ottawa, at the age of 83. Brent passed away peacefully on June 10, 2023, surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. Born in Brownsburg, Quebec, on November 10, 1939, to the late George and Marion (MacVicar) Connelly. Dearly loved husband of 54 years to Heather (MacTavish) Connelly. Adored father of Janet Blenman (Merrill), Michael Connelly (Linda), Brent Connelly (Michele), Christine Neubauer (Brian), Kathy Macdonald (Reid), John Connelly, and Nancy Syrett (Steven). Much-loved grandfather of Matthew Currie (Warren Carter), Ryan Currie (Michelle Crago), and Courtney Warman (Mike); Alexa-Rae and Justin Connelly; Amanda Connelly (Mark Duncan) and Christopher Connelly; Daniel and Nicole Neubauer; Deborah Macdonald; and Hannah Syrett (Jacob Sheridan). Proud great-grandfather of Mila Currie, Connor and Caileigh Peters, and Blake Warman. Dear brother of Janice Bateman (Gordon) and special cousin of Terry Noble. Heartfelt thanks to Brent’s PSWs (Cindy, Sally, and Chelsea) and to the palliative care team at the Queensway-Carleton. Brent spent a rewarding career spanning 39 years as a forester in the Lake Superior and Algonquin provincial parks. A natural storyteller, Brent published four books about his life in and out of the forests.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 14, 2023, at

Visitation will commence at 12 noon. Service in the Chapel will follow at 2 p.m.
Cremation has taken place. Interment of ashes at a later date.
