Obituary for Albert "Bert" Francis Shute

Good Morning, Sunshine, the sun is shining in the swamp!

************************
Our dear father Albert Francis (Bert) Shute passed away peacefully in his home with family by his side on Sunday October 1st, 2023 at the age of 83. He was predeceased by his beloved Carole in 2022.

Bert was born in Montreal on November 10, 1939. His childhood in Montreal with his grandparents instilled a lifelong passion for woodworking and fly fishing, and he loved to speak about it with anyone who would listen. Bert graduated from Carleton University and worked for General Dynamics as a Logistics Engineer.

Bert and Carole were married in 1961 and bonded over their mutual appreciation for raising their American Cocker Spaniels and continued to share this throughout their long and happy marriage. Bert was a partner with Carole and Sue in The Quilting Quarters in Almonte and was on the Board of Directors of the Mississippi Mills Textile Museum. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, especially playing Stock Ticker at Christmas and cheating at crib.

Bert is survived by his children Steven (Nicola), Karen (John) and Susan (Brad) and his grandchildren (Alex (Jordan), Ian (Lex), David (Shannon) & Sarina (John) and Alex (Alison) & Max) and great-grandchildren (Charlotte and Vanessa).

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Bert’s support team, particularly Sally, Amber and Tabitha, and Dr. Spooner and all the staff at Carleton Place Hospital, for their compassion and care during his final days.

A memorial service will be planned in the future. All friends and family are welcome. The family asks that donations to Canadian Kidney Foundation be made instead of flowers or other gifts.
